imaginary girls by nova ren suma

This week I strated reading the book imaginary girls by: nova ren suma, and from as far as I have read im loving it. Chlo is the main character and her half sister ruby. The book is reaaly interesting it strats off talking about the relationship the two girls have and that chlo always listents to ruby and they have fun together. Then it talked about the setting and were it takes place and thats were the story beggan. At the reservoir is were everything starts.

Chlo, ruby, and some of rubys friends deside to go to the reservoir at midnight and have some fun. Ruby bring wine and everyone is having a fun time. Then Ruby and her friends have a dumb idea. They tell chlo to swim across the reservoir which sunk the city of Olivia under water. Chlo feels very uncomfterble about doing it but her sister Ruby tells her that she is invinsable and can do anything so she ends up doing it. She feels the power of being popular and having everyone watch what she is doing. She swims half way to catch her breath on a peice of drift wood. Then while everyone is scared for her they swim out to find her. She on the other hand is scared out of her mind because when she looks down she finds a girls body, and she knows that girl they have math class together.

Later once they get her out of the water the police come and investigate because the reservoir is closed property that they were tresspassing and there was a young dead girl floating in the middle of the reservoir. Chlo and ruby were seperated, chlo went to pennsylvania to live with her dad and ruby lived alone. They were in touch but very little. The sad thing is that they were like best friends, even more than that sisters and now they have to deal with living without eachother. Thats the part that I got up to and I am very exited to see what might happen next. In my mind i feel that chlo and ruby might get back together some how but thats what I think I have to just wait and see.

nicole-Romeo and Juliet, Baz luhrmann

I really enjoyed the movie Romeo and Julliet. I like how the mixed in shakespearian language with modern day language to make it very interesting and yet different. The movie had the same feel and idea of the original play,  but the modern day movie is more likely what would happen now.

While watching the movie I took notes on water. There are many scenes including the matter of water and each time it has a different meaning to it. In the beginning Juliet had her head in water trying to just relax from the pressure that her mother is putting on her, she just wants to have a place no one can interrupt her. Also in the beginning Romeo also does the same thing as Juliet and I think that Baz Luhrman does this so we can get a look at the characters. Then when Romeo and Juliet met for the first time they were looking at each other through a fish tank (full of water) smiling and laughing and thats when they fall in love.  Baz Luhrmann incorporates water in many different ways. This was their fate to meet each other with water some how included.

There is also a scene in Juliets pool when they fully decide to get married and start their life together

Water is not only included in good things but also bad.  Benvolio was shot and killed near the water, and when Romeo shot Tybalt he fell back into water after he was shot. The author knew that it would be interesting to make water appear in different ways.

My theory is that when Baz Luhrmann puts happy and joyful scenes the water looks pretty and light (ex. when looking at fish tank it was colorful). When he wants to incorporate the bad things he makes water look dark and scary (ex. when Romeo shoots Tybalt, when he falls back water is dark and scary looking to show that its not a time to be happy).
